“Burning Bridges”

This article by Liz Ryan at Forbes is fantastic! When it comes to work, “Don’t burn bridges” may have been useful advice at a certain point in time but, to me, it breeds co-dependence. No one owes everythingggggg to their employer, what kinda fiefdom b.s…. I personally enjoy its smart-ass cousin, “May the bridges I burn light the way.” Certainly, politeness is in order - that’s always welcomed and preferred. However, as laid out so eloquently by Ryan in this article, you have to take care of and look out for yourself.
I recently resigned from my job - in a ‘demic! an actual pistachio - with full support from my spouse. I gave and served the arbitrary and obligatory two weeks’ notice. I’m well aware of how lucky and privileged I am to be able to make such a choice. Reading this article makes me ever more steadfast in this big decision, and also the confidence to know I kept it polite and maintained my integrity.

If no other lesson is taken, remember that it’s ok and imperative you advocate for yourself, even at the risk of going unliked. Life is short and it’s long as fuck - you have to choose to be happy!
Bless!
