Outside my window…
Fall is a funny thing around here. The days can remain warm and summer-esque, with the nights getting increasingly cooler. Yesterday morning, I woke first and made coffee and looked outside to the back patio. I sighed, “Man, it’s fall.” Up to yesterday, it still felt like summer during the day. But, ‘round here, when September 20 rolls around, Ms. Muva Nature does her thing and comes on schedule to change from summer to fall. Makes it feel like summer is 1 day.
Growing up in Connecticut, the leaves on the trees that lined, well, everything, would change colors. Here in Colorado, there’s a sweet spot of leaves changing colors up in the mountains, usually last week, and then all the leaves fall. Here in the foothills, most of the greenery/shrubbery/tree-er-y are non-native and merely planted here. While it’s pretty, it’s not the same, and I rely on the crispness of the air, the carbonated drink carton art the grocery store stacks up, the pumpkin spice explosion, the targeted sweater ads in my social meeds feeds, versus just the colors of the leaves.
We just returned from vacation in HAWAII last week and our beautiful tans are fading. Of course beachy weather is preferable to cold or changing weather. Maybe one day I’ll love to be in beachy weather year-round. For now, though, I will work on replenishing my sweater collection, celebrate my babe’s birthday (spin bike and NFL tix!), and wax poetic about another calendar year gone by.
