The Supposed “High Road”

This is your semi-quarterly reminder that the supposed “High Road” we’re all advised to take is in fact a silencing tactic meant to oppress you. Moreover, it’s boring, and some fights are meant to be started.

It’s perfectly OK to stick up for yourself. It’s perfectly OK to disappoint other people or make them mad. Like, don’t be a sociopath about it, but how many conversations have we all shimmied and shied away from because we are afraid, literally afraid, to make someone mad/sad with what we have to say??

It’s just….. sometimes, some people genuinely need to be told to go fuck themselves. Be brave enough to do them that favor.

Shoutout to Daniel Lavery aka Dear Prudence over at Slate.com for the phrasing and ethos.
