Nostalgia Train - July 20, 2001
This morning we had a great breakfast at our homestay. I thought it was going to be awful staying here, but it’s been great! We headed off nice and early for the bus to go to Dublin. We rode around for about an hour or so while the guide just babbled on. It got really boring, but then we went to Kilmainham Goal, the jail of Dublin until 1922. Being in there I got such an eerie feeling. We stood on the execution site, wich was so…weird being right there. So much history here, I just can’t believe it.
Then we shopped for about 4 hours in Dublin… it got confusing at times, but what an incredible experience. I got my mom some Irish Linen which I know she’ll love. Then we went to the Nat’l Art Gallery which was cool, but at that point I was so tired, I just wanted to go home! Luckily that time quickly came, and we had another delic. meal here at the homestay: spaghetti w/ meat sauce and apple pie for dessert. Then we went to a football match and then we went to a real Irish pub. I had a few glasses of Guinness and just chatted and hung out with my fellow PTP Student Ambassadors. What a fabulous night!
Beer!
I recall visiting the jail very well. What I didn’t write down and what I remember was the guide describing an execution of a prisoner who was so sick and old, he was wheeled out and stood up for the the firing squad. As she described it, it’s like I could see it. Super eerie, super cool.
